-Grew up in smaller city nearby (Elko), moved to LV to go to school at LVU

-Powers kicked in gradually. He's known about the talking to cats thing since he was in h.s. The supersmell didn't kick in until he was 19. At 21, he left college to attend perfumery school with Estee Lauder.

-Is working his way up through the company and taking chem classes at night

-Discovered 'power boosting' accidentally when shaking hands with a man in the mall and causing every tree in the place to suddenly grow really, really, really fast.

-After a few other similar incidents (and two near arrests), he was approached by a man with a dark suit, dark glasses, and a lot of money. It quickly became apparent that the job was less than honest. When he declined the offer, it started to become less of an offer and more insistant. When they started threatening his friends and family, Matthew decided he better get out of Dodge and regroup.
